WAYS TO PARTICIPATE
*Track your reading! Get a Summer Reading tracker and mark off each day that you read. Return your tracker to any of our libraries once a week to enter a prize drawing!
*Complete a scavenger hunt! Can you find all the hidden pictures at the library? Test your detective skills by completing our weekly scavenger hunt challenges!
*Enjoy a Summer Reading event! Our Summer Reading schedule is packed with interactive storytimes, crafts, games, and guest performances!
*Take a library road trip! Pick up a Summer Reading Adventure Log and visit all five WCPL locations to win a prize!
KICKOFF EVENT
It’s the first day of Summer Reading! Stop by any of our libraries on Saturday, June 1st from 11-2 for games, treats, a goodie bag, and library books for our reading challenge! All ages welcome.
MUSIC AND MOVEMENT
Our bodies, minds, and hearts learn together as we sing interactive songs, play instruments, move, groove, and have fun! Abingdon library every Monday at 10:30a.m. Recommended for ages 0-5.
STORYTIME
Join us for “Adventure Begins at Your Library” storytime featuring songs, picture books, rhymes, and movement for early literacy! Abingdon library every Tuesday at 10:30a.m. Branch libraries every Wednesday at 10:30a.m. Recommended for ages 0-5.
MORNING MINGLE
All ages and abilities are welcome to join us for an accessible activity that promotes social connection. Please see the Morning Mingle series for program dates and times. All ages welcome.
FAMILY PLAYTIME
Join us at the library for a fun family program! We’ll engage in fun activities that allow children to explore, play, and connect with other families. Abingdon library every Thursday at 10:30a.m. Recommended for ages 0-5.
LEGO PLAY
Do you have what it takes to be a master builder? Enjoy building freely with our huge collection of bricks! Abingdon library every Saturday at 10:30. Recommended for kids.
DARIN HANDY’S AMAZING CREATURES

CONSTELLATION JARS
Just for Teens! Craft your own galaxy-themed decor with this constellation in a jar! Tuesday June 4th at 2p.m. at all library locations. Recommended for teens.
MEET US AT THE MEADOWS
We’re hosting a family meetup with songs and a story walk at the Meadows Sports Complex in Abingdon! Tuesday, June 11th at 6:30p.m. All ages welcome.
GEODE GEOLOGISTS
What’s inside a geode? How do they form? Most importantly, how do you split them open? We’ll learn basic geode geology and have a smashing time exploring various types of rocks. Wednesday, June 12th at 11a.m. Recommended for kids.
ADVENTURE CUPCAKES
Just for Teens! Learn cake decorating techniques and design a cupcake based on the Adventure Begins at Your Library theme! Tuesday, June 18th at 2p.m. at all library locations. Recommended for teens.
BUBBLEPALOOZA
A bubble party! Explore how bubbles form, mix your own bubble solution, create bubble artwork, and have some messy fun. Wednesday, June 26th at 11a.m. at all library locations. Recommended for kids. *Abingdon’s Bubblepalooza will be at Munchkin Park, 353 Clark Street.*
SOLAR OVEN RECIPE CONTEST

Get ready for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics with library-friendly games and awards! Wednesday, July 10th at 11a.m. at all library locations. Recommended for kids.
S’MORE STORIES
Send off Summer Reading with an evening of stories and s’mores! Thursday, July 11th at 6:30p.m. at Munchkin Park at 353 Clark Street in Abingdon. All ages welcome.
