As the anniversary of Hurricane Helene nears, the Virginia Disaster Assistance Team (VDAT) wants to ensure that our community is flourishing—especially our youngest members. Throughout the month of July, VDAT will be a guest during Stephanie’s regular weekly storytime at the Damascus Public Library. Join us every Wednesday morning from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM as part of the usual summer reading fun. Stephanie will continue to share her engaging stories and activities, and each week, VDAT will contribute one story to the lineup focused on themes like scary weather, big feelings, nature, hope, and resilience. Caregivers are welcome to take this time to chat with VDAT representatives about topics such as parenting after a disaster, adolescent trauma responses, and common emotional triggers that may arise leading up to the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene.
