Sunday with Friends: Bruce Holsinger

December 7 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Meet Bruce Holsinger, author of “Culpability,” the Oprah Book Club pick for July 2025.

“I was riveted until the very last shocking sentence,” Oprah said of her 116th book club selection. “Culpability” is a possibly a near-future, possibly contemporary thriller, that begs to be discussed and dissected, set at the strange new place where artificial intelligence, responsibility, and family loyalty and affection meet. In a Kirkus starred review, Holsinger was credited with having “created his own subgenre of psychosocial thriller” out of the unique anxieties of our times.

Holsinger is a professor of English at the University of Virginia and is the author of four other novels: “The Displacements,” “The Gifted School,” “The Invention of Fire,” and “A Burnable Book,” as well as works of nonfiction and many publications. He has been profiled on NPR’s Weekend Edition, Here & Now, and Marketplace.

You can find his full biography on his website.

Read an excerpt of “Culpability” on Oprah Daily; we bet you’ll want to come and buy a copy from the Friends and get it signed right after Holsinger’s book discussion at this event! Refreshments will be served.

The Sunday with Friends author series is sponsored by the Friends of the Washington County Public Library, a volunteer, non-profit organization whose purpose is to help strengthen the resources of the library and to make it a dynamic force in the community.
