Book Sales & Donations
The Friends of the Library hold several book sales throughout the year.
Book sale funds support the Sunday with Friends literary series, library programs, staff training, the Summer Reading Program and much more. Our biggest book sale of the year is the Highlands Festival Book Sale. Check the library calendar for our other book sales.
We sell more than 30 categories of books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, and other items. We restock every day, so there’s always something new.

- Work at a book sale as a cashier or book restocker
- Help on Outreach Day following a book sale
Donations are processed at the Main library. However, patrons may bring donations of three boxes or fewer to our branch libraries, and donations of five boxes or fewer to Main library in Abingdon during our regular operating hours. If you have more than five boxes of materials you’d like to donate, please contact the Main library at 276-676-6233.
Your book donations are vital to our success. We thank you for your generosity.
We accept in new or gently used condition:
- Hardback and paperback books
- Crafting, cooking, gardening, and Blue Ridge magazines
We cannot accept:
- Toys, games, or artwork
- Computer Software
- National Geographic magazines
- Weekly magazines
- VHS tapes
We cannot take damaged books with broken bindings or missing pages in addition to those that are soiled, musty, mildewed, water damaged, or with notes or highlighting in the text.
We provide a receipt with the number of books and other materials you donate, if requested. The Friends cannot confirm the value of your donation.
