Our e-library is available 24/7 at www.wcpl.net/e-library and we offer virtual programs too.  Library staff is available via telephone at 276-676-6233 to offer assistance and to issue library cards.  Interlibrary loan service has also resumed. Call 276-676-6391 for Interlibrary Loan.

We anticipate announcing next steps in our phased reopening plan in the near future, so please check back for updates.

UPDATE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR, 07/31/2020:
Virginia continues to operate under a State of Emergency. The library relies on the Mount Rogers Health District as the local source for guidance. In determining library operations, the library board and director review data on a weekly basis that is provided by the Virginia Department of Health.

Our area is currently experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases and confirmed cases are expected to peak during the week ending September 6, 2020.

We are taking a cautious approach to reopening and have determined that all library facilities will remain closed to the public at this time. Curbside services, public wi-fi access outside library buildings, and virtual programming will continue. Library staff is available via telephone to provide assistance.

Washington County Public Library is committed to protecting the health and safety of library patrons and staff during the pandemic.

UPDATE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR, 06/09/2020:

UPDATE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR Friday, 3/27/20
Washington County Public Library continues to monitor the latest information about the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Although we have practiced all recommendations from the CDC and the Virginia Department of Health, we feel it is best to minimize everyone’s risk during this crisis and do our part to keep our community safe.  As a result, all WCPL locations will remain closed until it is safe to reopen.

Holds Will Not Expire and Late Fees Waived While the library is closed, late fees will not accrue, and holds will not expire.  Book drops are closed.  Please keep all materials until the library reopens.

New Library Cards & Existing Card Holders You can still get a library card even while our libraries are closed.  Have a card but can’t find it?  Staff are available to help 9:00 – 5:00, Monday-Friday @ (276) 676-6233

Library Access From Home Our digital collection is available 24/7.  You can access eBooks, eAudios, and eMagazines, plus online classes, and more with your library card.   We will be frequently adding eBooks and EAudio for adults, teens, and children to OverDrive during the period that libraries are closed.  Check back often for new titles!   WCPL offers many online resources that are accessible from your home.  While we are closed, our staff are available remotely to provide research assistance.

WiFi Though our buildings are closed, you may access the wireless internet with your own laptop or device while in the library parking lot.

UPDATE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR,  05/15/2020:
Details of Phased Reopening
We have been busy planning for a coordinated phased reopening.  The health and safety of the community and library staff continue to be a high priority.

Beginning Monday, June 1, we will begin accepting returns at our outside book drops.  Unfortunately, we can’t accept donations of books and other materials until further notice.

Following CDC and the Virginia Department of Health guidelines, all returned materials will be cleaned, sanitized, and quarantined prior to going back into circulation.

Please continue to monitor our webpage for additional updates and information on future curbside service.

UPDATE FROM THE LIBRARY DIRECTOR Sunday, 3/15/20

Friday, 3/13/20

The Washington County Public Library (WCPL) is closely monitoring information about the coronavirus (COVID-19).  The health and safety of staff and library users is our priority.  We are following directions from state and local health officials.  While we have been fortunate that our region has not had a reported case to date, the Library is preparing now in case the situation escalates to the point where closings or changes in operation are necessary.

As a public health precaution, WCPL is now enforcing social distancing measures until further notice.  The CDC defines social distancing as “remaining out of congregate settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.”

Along with many other measures noted below, this means:
