Event Series Event Series: 2023 Sunday with Friends

Suzanne Stryk

May 21 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

At our Sunday with Friends program, meet Suzanne Stryk, Bristol VA visual artist, who spent three years traveling throughout Virginia developing a project to put a spin on Thomas Jefferson’s “Notes on the State of Virginia.” The resulting assemblages are composed of the artist’s drawings and paintings, book pages, pressed leaves, rusty farm equipment, etc. which reflect the special regions of Virginia: the Coastal Plain, Piedmont, Blue Ridge, Valley and Ridge, and the Appalachian Plateau. Her book ”The Middle of Somewhere: An Artist Explores the Nature of Virginia” captures the essence of the experience of traveling and developing the assemblages.

Sponsored by the Friends of the Washington County Public Library.
