Browse and swap heirloom seeds to plant in your garden this spring.
This WCPL Seed Savers Library program is in partnership with Sustain Abingdon and the Washington County Master Gardeners, in memory of Seed Savers Library Coordinator Randy Smith.
1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Speaker Ben Casteel
Ben Casteel, VHCC Horticulture Coordinator, will talk about seed saving: from seed to seed, learn about why, when, and how to save seeds of any garden plant, including fruits and vegetables, flowers, and herbs. We will discuss seed starting, planting, harvesting, processing, treatments, and storage.
2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Seed Swap
Many local gardeners, organizations, and farms will have seeds to share. Feel free to bring your own seeds to swap with others, although this is NOT required! Bring empty envelopes and pens to collect and label seed packets. Have lots of questions ready to ask experienced local gardeners, farmers, and naturalists.
Native plant seeds will be available.
