COLLECTION MATERIAL
What materials do you have for children and young adults?
- Picture books
- Easy readers
- Board books
- Novels
- Non fiction books
- Paperbacks
- Magazines
- Musical CDs, educational CD ROMs, audiocassettes and videos
How are the materials arranged?
In most of our libraries the collection of materials is divided into three sections:
- Easy Collection – materials for non-readers and
beginning readers, including picture books and
easy readers. Materials are arranged by the
author’s last name, preceded by the letter E.
- Juvenile Collection – materials for readers on 2nd
through 6th grade reading levels. Non fiction materials
are arranged by subject, and fiction materials
are arranged by the author’s last name preceded
by the letters JF.
- Young Adult Collection – materials for middle and
high school readers, including selections for a
more mature teen audience. Materials are listed
with the letters YA. Non-book materials for children and young adults,
such as videos and CDs, are located with general
collections for materials of this type.
Stickers located on the spines of some books identify
books on seasonal subjects and special reading levels.
How do I locate an item with a certain title or on a
particular subject?
The card catalog has been replaced by an electronic
database accessed through a unit called an OPAC
(online public access catalog). The OPAC can be
searched in our libraries or offsite by clicking
here.
