Books and Beyond - Frequently Asked Questions

Who may use the Books And Beyond program?

Books And Beyond kits may be used in any organized educational     program in Washington County.  Teachers of preschools, elementary schools, head starts, home school settings, day care centers, and home-based child care services are eligible.

How do you obtain a Books And Beyond kit?

Checking out Books And Beyond kits is as simple as checking out a library book.  Just present your library card at the circulation desk at the main library in Abingdon.  You will also be asked to fill in a log sheet to help us evaluate the program.
The circulation staff will take a few minutes to take a quick inventory of the kit to make sure all materials are present.  The kit will also be inventoried when you return it.
Kits may be shared by teachers at the same facility during the check out period.  However, the person listed on the log sheet will be held responsible if items are damaged or missing.

How long is the loan period?

Kits with general themes may be checked out for a two week period.  Seasonal kits may be checked out for one week.  There are no renewals.

Can kits be reserved?

Kits may be reserved in the same way as library books.  Kits may not be reserved for a particular date, but will be passed on as soon as the kit becomes available.

What if materials are lost, damaged, or overdue?

Fines for overdue kits will be assessed at $3.00 per day per kit.  A generous amount of time will be given for the location and return of missing materials.  If lost materials are not found within this time frame, or damaged items cannot be repaired, borrowers will be asked to reimburse the library for the cost of replacing the missing materials.  Overdue fines will be assessed on missing materials.
