Rick Whelan, a Canadian playwright, will inaugurate a new series,
“On Stage at the Library,” when he discusses the adaptation of

at Barter Theatre. Sponsored
by the Friends of the Washington County Public Library, the event will be
held on Sunday, Sept. 19, at
3:00 p.m.
in the Conference Room at the library.
Whelan’s
appearance will be the first of four visits with playwrights who will be
in Abingdon overseeing the production of their plays at Barter Theatre
this fall. Rod Beattie (“Wingfield
Farm”) will appear on Oct. 17, Peter Coy (“This Is Our House”) on
Oct. 24, and Ron Osborne (“Wise Women”) on Nov. 21.
“The Hunchback of Notre Dame” is the moving story of the
outcast Quasimodo and his love for the beautiful gypsy Esmeralda.
The Barter run of the show will be from Sept. 22 to Nov. 20.
