LIBRARY BEGINS YEAR-LONG ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 24
Charlotte
Parsons, director of the Washington County Public Library, announced today
plans to conduct a year-long program of events in honor of the fiftieth
anniversary of the library. The
commemoration is entitled “Celebrating the Past: Looking to the
Future.”
The festivities will begin on Sunday, October 24 in the Library’s
conference room, with a program at
3:00 pm
, followed by refreshments at
4 pm
.
The program will feature
Virginia
playwright Peter Coy whose play
“This is Our House” opened at the Barter Theatre on September 29 and
will run through November 13.
The public is invited to come by to hear the guest speaker or to
join us for a piece of birthday cake and a glass of punch.
We welcome adults and children to share in this happy event.
Throughout the year the celebration will offer many opportunities
for the community to look back at our library a half a century ago, to see
how it has developed over the years, and to explore plans for the future.
Activities will include programs for all ages, a variety of
displays and exhibits, musical performances, handouts, personal
recollections, and a brief history of the library, all designed to
demonstrate how the library has enriched the community over the past 50
years.
