Canadian
Actor is “On Stage at the Library”
Canadian actor Rod Beattie will be featured in a community program,
“On Stage at the Library,” on Sunday, Oct. 17 at
3:00 p.m.
at the Washington County Public Library.
Beattie is in Abingdon for a special three-day run of
his show, “Letter from Wingfield Farm,” at Barter Theatre.
Beattie will speak about his career in the theatre and his
involvement in this production.
The “On Stage at the Library” series is designed
for the community to get to know the playwrights and actors who will be
showcasing their talents this fall at the Barter Theatre.
A veteran of thirteen seasons with the Stratford
Festival, Beattie is one of the most respected and versatile Canadian
actors, who has starred is such diverse plays as “The Crucible,”
“The Seagull,” and “Love Letters.”
“Letters from Wingfield Farm” is one of a cycle
of plays that Beattie has developed in collaboration with playwright Dan
Needles about a successful stockbroker who gives up his pinstriped suits
for overalls and retreats to a 100-acre farm in rural
Canada
in hopes of embracing a less complicated world.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of the
Washington County Public Library and is free for the public. A reception
will follow Beattie’s appearance.
