EXHIBITS AND DISPLAYS POLICY

As an educational and cultural institution and as part of its public service, the Washington County Public Library welcomes exhibits and displays of interest, information, and enlightenment to the community.

1. Priority

The Library retains priority rights to all exhibit and display space for library purposes.

2. Requests to display Privately-Owned Materials

All requests to display privately-owned materials must be approved by the Library Director or designated person at each library facility. Exhibits must be arranged at least two months in advance and may be arranged up to one year in advance.

The Library has the right to limit the size, number of items, the schedule of any display, and the frequency with which an individual or organization may have a display. As a general rule, an individual or organization may not have a display more than once during a twelve-month period.

The Library reserves the right to eliminate work whose subject matter and/or rendering is deemed inappropriate for the library audience. The Library also reserves the right to cancel an exhibit if too few works are brought in, or to eliminate works if the exhibitor has brought in too many.

A request for a display or exhibit focusing on a public issue must indicate that all aspects of the issue will be presented in an equal manner.

The Library reserves the right to hold space open for an invited artist or group as it sees fit.

Publicity, as deemed appropriate, will be planned and developed by the Library on the exhibit.

Approval of a display or exhibit does not indicate that the Library endorses any cause or activity. All displays and exhibits will include a sign stating the sponsorship of the exhibit or display.

3. Restrictions on Displays and Exhibits of Privately-Owned Materials

The Library does not assume any financial liability for personal articles loaned for display or exhibit. The Library will endeavor to protect the materials but the owner must sign a Display and Exhibits Agreement relieving the Library of any responsibility for loss or damage.

Exhibits are placed and removed by the exhibitor on the days agreed upon during regular library hours.

No display will be allowed to solicit donations or consideration of any product or item sold by commercial, religious, or charitable enterprise.

The prices for art work or articles displayed for sale may not be quoted or tagged on the items. The name, address, and telephone number of the artist may be posted, however.
