ABOUT THE LIBRARY
The Washington County Public Library System has been
helping county residents with their information needs since 1954. The
library was originally located on the Barter Drive and in 1976 moved into
a new and spacious building at the corner of Oak Hill And Valley Streets.
The system operates the Main Library, four branches, and an outreach
program..
Over the past twenty years the Washington
County Public Library System has grown
in practically every way possible-- in the number of books in its
collections, in the variety of services provided, in the number of people
who use the library on a regular basis, and in staff. Its once spacious
area is now diminished to make room for this growth as well as for the new
technologies that make library services more equitable and efficient.
Equally important is the fact that the
Washington County Public Library System has grown in the knowledge of its role in Washington County.
Access to information is a critical element in assuring that individuals,
businesses, industries, educational institutions and other components of
our society can grow and develop to their full potential.
The Washington County Public Library
System takes its role seriously. Every effort is made to serve the youngest to
the most senior citizen. It reaches out to those who cannot use its
facilities. It searches to find information not found in the collections.
It provides space for public forums. It provides the resources to
educate, train, inform, enlighten, and entertain.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Washington County Public Library System is to provide the
community with current resources for life-long learning, social
exchange, pleasure, and entertainment.
